Few St. Louis neighborhoods have experienced an art boom quite like the one that has occurred in Chesterfield in recent years. The suburb, located 20 miles west of downtown St. Louis, boasts exceptional public art, like the larger-than-life “The Awakening,” and has even turned its City Hall into an art gallery with rotating works by both amateur and professional artists.
In 2014 the city added arts programming and events to its parks and recreation department, and today Chesterfield hosts two free concert series — Sounds of Summer and Gateway Festival Orchestra — at its 4,000-seat amphitheater. Chesterfield is also home to numerous arts institutions, including Saint Louis Ballet School and Art Unleashed. Each September, Chesterfield also plays host to the region’s biggest culinary extravaganza, Taste of St. Louis.
