Porter Arneill joined the City of Lawrence, KS as the Director of Arts and Culture in May 2015. The Director of Arts and Culture focuses on enhanced coordination of arts and cultural activities and initiatives in the community and serves as the staff liaison for the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission and the Sister Cities Advisory Board. Prior to his appointment in Lawrence, Porter served as the Director & Public Art Administrator for the Municipal Art Commission of the City of Kansas City, Missouri from 2002 to 2015. He holds a Master's degree in fine art from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. For many years after graduate school, he created and exhibited his own work while assisting artists with public art projects in the US, Europe and China. During his career in arts administration, Porter has served as the Curator of Education/Adjunct Curator of Exhibitions for Laumeier Sculpture Park and Museum and the Director of Public Art and Education for the Regional Arts Commission, both in St. Louis. He has also served as a Lecturer and Adjunct Faculty at various institutions including the Kansas City Art Institute and St. Louis Community College. From 2004-2010, Mr. Arneill served as the Co-Vice Chair of the Americans for the Arts /Public Art Network Council. Porter lives in Lawrence, Kansas.
