American icon Joan Tower honors the strength of women, dedicating Fanfare for an Uncommon Woman #6 to Cuban-American composer Tania León. León in turn celebrates her vibrant Latin American cultural heritage in Tumbao.
The concert continues with Strauss’ fabled merry prankster of lore, Till Eulenspiegel, who gets a playful reimagining for mixed quintet, after which the confidence and vigor of youth are captured in Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Nonet Op. 2.
