Juried Exhibit: “I am a Human Being” – July 7-28, 2018
o “I am not an animal…I am a human being!” the cry of John Merrick, the so-called “Elephant Man.” Merrick was severely deformed from birth. He was discovered by physician John Treves while being exhibited as a freak in a sideshow.
o The pursuers of Merrick clearly did not recognize this suffering soul’s humanity. When we do not see the other as “one of us” it opens the door to disrespect, hatred, rejection and violence.
o How do you portray the quality of “humanness”?
This juried show is open to all. Good Shepherd Gallery (Arts Center) is seeking submissions for a show that will run Saturday, July 7 through Saturday, July 28. There is a $10 application fee. Deadline for submissions is May 31, 2018. Follow the link below to open the prospectus and application.
