Come and experience the splendorous imagination of India in Dances of India’s 41st annual performance: The Forgotten Ramayana– the Tale of Urmila, the Sleeping Princess, on Nov. 16-18, 2018.
The Ramayana, one of the world’s greatest epics, tells the tale of Prince Rama and his wife the Princess Sita as they navigate the wilds of a forest for fourteen years.
Dances of India, in an originally scripted & narrated tale, takes the story of Sita’s sister Urmila–who must sleep for fourteen years to ensure Rama’s safety in exile–and weaves it into a musical, rhythmic, confection of wonder, mysticism, and an explosion of color. Where do dreams end & where does reality begin? Is there any real difference at all?
The performance will also feature traditional Indian dances choreographed by Asha Prem, winner of the 2018 St. Louis Visionary Award for Outstanding Teaching Artist.
Guest artists will also perform from India & from the University of Kansas-Lawrence. More Details Soon!
