Exposure 20: Safe Spaces: Sage Dawson, Katherine, Simóne Reynolds, Shabez, Jamal and Rachel Youn opens Saturday August 24th, 2019 at Gallery 210

Gallery 210 presents
Exposure 20: “Safe Spaces”

Gallery 210 is pleased to open the fall season with Exposure 20: Safe Spaces. The exhibition features new work by area artists Sage Dawson, Katherine, Simóne Reynolds, Shabez, Jamal and Rachel Youn. It opens on August 24 at 4PM with an artists’ panel moderated by Jessica Baran followed by a reception for the artists from 5PM to 7PM.

The themes addressed by the artists in the exhibition examine and define what ‘safe space’ means in today’s contentious and politicized environment. In current vernacular ’safe space’ is defined as a physical or metaphorical place for people, usually of marginalized identities, to feel free of judgment or harm. From the artwork of Sage Dawson, Shabez Jamal, Katherine Simóne Reynolds, and Rachel Youn emerges an overall sense of safe spaces as a deeply personal sense of awareness, of a place within an intentionally constructed or accidental community of friends, family or institutions.
