Fidencio Fifield-Perez faces scrutiny and political debate every day in the United States. Born in Oaxaca, Mexico, his family migrated to North Carolina for a better life and more opportunities. Fifield-Perez was raised in North Carolina, and attended Memphis College of Art for a BFA. Upon graduating, he applied for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), which allowed him to attend The University of Iowa for an MA and a MFA. His work explores his personal experiences with immigration and the ever-evolving concept of “home.” Weaving together traditional craft techniques and family traditions, Fifield-Perez creates his own visual language.
