First Friday at the Foundry Art Centre

‘MESSY ART’ FIRST FRIDAY AT THE FOUNDRY ART CENTRE
October 1, 2021, 5-8pm

The Foundry Art Centre proudly presents the next installment of its First Friday Series October 1st, 5-8pm. On the first Friday of each month, join the FAC and celebrate the arts. The FAC will be open for extended hours through 8pm for visitors to spend time in the galleries, meet resident studio artists, engage with the community, and enjoy a wide array of art programming, entertainment, and special events.

For art activities, it’s all things MESSY! Visitors are invited to help create geometric art with cans of paint suspended from the Foundry’s Mezzanine. Foundry studio artist Lisa Hinrichs will lead artists of all ages to create these mesmerizing pendulum pours. Younger artists are welcome to paint pumpkins and create squirt gun paintings, shooting paint onto canvas. Lydia Crespo of Argaman&Defiance will head a workshop in the Foundry’s Lounge. She’ll also lead a collaborative “Paint the Couch” project in which guests are invited to help paint the newest addition to the Foundry Lounge!

In the Ameristar Gallery, studio artist Jody Williams’ exhibition Botanical Abstraction: The Amazing Color and Pattern of Plants opens. Williams, a botanical artist and photographer, creatively applies the process of abstraction to images drawn from her personal image archive numbering in the tens of thousands of botanical subjects taken of plants in gardens and natural settings around the world. By manipulating these images, Williams develops a completely new visual experience and tells a story that a single image cannot. Her goal is to assemble groupings which are as compelling to view collectively as each one is to take in individually.

Exhibitions by Mandy Pedigo, Laura Berman, Alison Ouellette-Kirby, and Noah Kirby continue in the Main Galleries. Live music and a cash bar for refreshments round out the night.

Events & exhibitions at the Foundry Art Centre are free and open to the public. For more information, please visit us at foundryartcentre.org or email Jessica Mannisi, Art & Exhibitions Coordinator at jmannisi@foundryartcentre.org.
