Join the St. Louis Chamber Chorus as we return to a favorite venue for choral music, the beautiful St. Stanislaus Kostka Polish Catholic Church, just north of downtown,
for a program specifically created for its acoustic and traditions. The focus of the concert is the “Passion Week” of Maximilian Steinberg, a forgotten Russian masterpiece that was suppressed by the Soviets but has recently been rediscovered. Complementing Steinberg’s music, performed in the home to Polish Christians in St. Louis – St. Stanislaus Kostka Church – will be two motets each by the contemporary Anglo-Polish composer, Roxanna Panufnik, and an Anglo-Bulgarian wunderkind, Dobrinka Tabakova. These female composers remind our audience that the Chamber Chorus is committed to place the music of women in the mainstream of our repertoire, and not consign them to a special program.
