At seventy-five years old, Arzell Thompson has been an artist since the time his mother sat him down at the kitchen table with paper, paints and crayons and told him to draw so she could get her work done. Originally from North County Ferguson area, Mr. Thompson studied art at the Norman Rockwell’s famous art school in the 1960’s. Mr. Thompson was the first person of color in the United States Air Force to work in graphics and as illustrator. Later, Mr. Thompson worked at Marathon Oil Research as technical illustrator and for Martin Marietta on the space shuttle proposal, the only person of color among twenty-five illustrators on this project. Skilled in portraits, landscapes, seascapes, watercolor, photography, sketch, illustration and art instruction, he has taken up a new medium at the young age of seventy-five: digital painting. He will exhibit limited edition digital prints for sale with a certificate of authenticity. This current body of work is largely afro-centric.
