November 3 – December 13
Artist’s Talk Sunday, November 10, 12:30pm
Nearsy Wright’s Castles series examines the simultaneous discord and harmony in everyday life – a life that presents us with many choices and paths. In hindsight, looking back at the roads we’ve taken, it is often easy to see what led us to our current position. As a metaphor, the end of each person’s life is the same – the kingdom of the afterlife, represented in each painting by the castle imagery.
Though a special focus is given to the predominance of the castle at the end of life, the presence or absence of spirituality is not asked of the viewer. It is taken that we each hold our own beliefs, and that morality, decency, and justice weigh us here on earth as well as after. The castle serves as a placeholder that can be applicable across a breadth of religions and beliefs.
