Japanese stab binding, also known as Fukuro Toji (bound-pocket books), is an artist’s bookmaking technique that employs a simple, classic sewing process to make a soft cover album. Participants in this class will learn paper folding, tearing, and sewing techniques using traditional bookbinders tools such as a bone folder and awl. Each participant will leave class with at least 2 sewn albums, showcasing different stitching patterns. Participants are invited to bring their own decorative paper (at least 6″x 12″) to personalize their covers.
