Blues, rock, country and jazz had a baby and they named her Laka. She grew up in small-town Missouri but has found some recent music success in St. Louis and beyond. Laka recently released her third single, a country-folk song titled “Keep it to Myself,” written by Mike Lipel and has an upcoming release of “St. Louis Blues.”
She debuted at her first show at the Blue Strawberry in October of 2020 titled “The Music in Me”, her life story through music and went on to perform the show in New York City at the venue, Don’t Tell Mama. Laka noticed that the life stories she told in between songs resonated with her audience on a deeper level, which led her to acting. She starred in her first play in October, “St. Louis Woman.” “Laka is notable for her remarkable versatility as she manages various styles from Jazz, to pop, to gospel, to R&B, to rock n’ roll, with excellent power and presence“ (Snoops Theatre Review). “….her vocals blow the roof off the theater” (Broadway World). In continuing to write the story of her life, Chapter 2022 was “St. Louis Woman” and 2023 is the first album.
