The Italian artist Medardo Rosso was instrumental in expanding the definition of sculpture for the modern era. Focusing on everyday people as his subjects, Rosso portrayed fugitive visual, physical, or emotional states that contrast with the monumental, idealized depictions typical of traditional sculpture. Medardo Rosso: Experiments in Light and Form is the first comprehensive US museum exhibition of the artist’s work in over fifty years. Bringing together nearly 100 works that include sculptures, drawings, and photographs—most of which have never been exhibited outside of Europe—this exhibition explores Rosso’s varied efforts to understand, capture, and manipulate light in his art.
On view through May 13, 2017. The Pulitzer is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10am–5pm, with evening hours on Thursday and Friday until 8pm. Admission and parking are free.
