Nine

Leverage Dance Theater’s spring concert, “Nine” explores renewal, growth and transition. The title is a reference to the symbology and mythology of the number which reflects the emotional spaces explored by the concert’s work.

In mathematics, 9 is seen as mysterious, unavoidable and undeniable. Multiplying by nine, reinforces the energy of nine ALWAYS producing more nines. When counting, 9 is the last original numeral, representing both the end of a period or endeavor and the beginning of a transition or transformation. It is often seen as a number that inspires reflection, as towards the end of an era (like New Year’s Eve or 1999).

Nine brings us to the end of a phase, to explore the phase of transition before a new phase begins, reflecting back on past accomplishments while looking forward to the potential rebirth of a next phase.
