Sip & Sketch: Sketching and Inking with Juan William Chávez

Sharpen your pencils and join artist Juan William Chávez for an evening of drawing! Juan will lead a guided sketching session in our gallery featuring Dare to Know: Chess and the Age of Reason. Following the sketch exercise, participants will add colored inks to bring their sketches of 18th Century craftsmanship into unique contemporary pieces of art. No previous experience required and all materials will be provided.

Juan William Chávez is an artist and cultural activist who creates and shares space with the built and natural environment to address community-identified issues. Chávez graduated from The Kansas City Art Institute and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He is the founder of the Northside Workshop in Saint Louis and has received numerous awards including a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation fellowship, the Great Rivers Biennial Grant, and the Graham Foundation Grant for Advanced Studies in Fine Art.
