THE MISSION OF THE ST. LOUIS AFRICAN ARTS FESTIVAL IS TO INCREASE THE AWARENESS OF AFRICAN PEOPLE AND PEOPLE OF AFRICAN DESCENT’S GLOBAL CONTRIBUTIONS MADE THROUGH ART, CULTURAL, AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. THE FESTIVAL IS HELD IN BEAUTIFUL FOREST PARK AT THE WORLD’S FAIR PAVILION. EACH YEAR THE FESTIVAL ATTRACTS A DIVERSE AUDIENCE OF THOUSANDS OF LOCAL RESIDENTS AND OUT-OF-TOWN VISITORS DURING THE MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. THE COMMUNITY IS DRAWN TOGETHER IN CELEBRATION OF THE RICH CONTRIBUTIONS OF AFRICA AND THE AFRICAN DIASPORA (DIASPORA–PEOPLE SETTLED FAR FROM THEIR ANCESTRAL HOMELANDS). THIS FAMILY ORIENTATED FESTIVAL IS FREE AND RUNS 3 DAYS: SATURDAY (10AM TO 8PM), SUNDAY (11AM TO 8PM), AND MONDAY (10AM TO 6PM). THERE IS A LOT TO SEE AND DO SUCH AS, SHOP IN THE MARKETPLACE, DINE IN THE FOOD COURT, ENJOY LIVE ENTERTAINMENT, PARTICIPATE IN CULTURAL DEMONSTRATIONS, HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER, CHILDREN ACTIVITIES, SAFARI TEENS HUT, AND ENJOY SCHOOL ART DISPLAYS FROM 16 LOCAL SCHOOLS.
