The nexus of St. Louis art and culture, Grand Center, is perhaps best known for its stately theaters and concert venues, including the opulent and ornate Fabulous Fox Theatre, the elegant Powell Hall (home of the St, Louis Symphony), and the acoustically rich Sheldon Concert Hall and Art Galleries. And while Grand Center came to prominence a century ago as a theater district that still houses several local theater groups such as New Line and Metro, today the neighborhood is home to much more than the performing arts. The Contemporary Art Museum of St. Louis and its next door neighbor, Pulitzer Arts Foundation, feature stunning modern artworks housed in buildings as bold and avant-garde as the art they contain. The lesser known Museum of Contemporary Religious Art (on the campus of nearby St. Louis University) and Moto Museum are two more Grand Center museums worth checking out.
In addition to concert halls and museums, Grand Center boasts an impressive array of galleries and multi-faceted art spaces, such as Bruno David Gallery, Kranzberg Arts Center and Jazz at the Bistro. Grand Center has also become a media hub in St. Louis with KETC (Channel 9), St. Louis Public Radio (90.7 FM) and community radio KDHX (88.1 FM) all headquartered in the neighborhood. Grand Center plays host to numerous festivals and special events each year, such as St. Lou Fringe and Circus Flora.
