RAC Announces New Community Social Impact Fund

The Regional Arts Commission Announces

 New Community Social Impact Fund

For Projects Addressing Limited Access to Arts Programming

And Social Inequities

 ST. LOUIS (October 10, 2014) – The $25,000 Regional Arts Commission (RAC) Community Social Impact Fund will award grants to nonprofit organizations and artists that propose projects that address issues of social inequity and expand access to arts programming.  Grants awarded will generally be up to $2,500 to support new programs or the expansion of existing programs that may or may not already receive RAC funding.

“We know the arts have the power to inspire and transform neighborhoods and too often communities suffer from lack of access to arts programming.  We developed the Community Social Impact Fund to address the immediate need for these programs created by the recent events in our region,” stated Michael Scully, Chairman of the Commission.

RAC’s Executive Director Jill McGuire added, “Our Commissioners have agreed that long-term funding is needed for community-based programs to be successful. Planning is now underway for a larger Social Impact Fund in 2015, using the experience gained from this year’s Social Impact grant awards.”

The goals of the new RAC Community Social Impact Fund are:

  • To support the efforts of nonprofit organizations and artists working in communities to effect positive social change through the arts;
  • To encourage cross-sector collaboration in developing creative strategies to address the needs of the community;
  • To expand existing efforts that provide opportunities for creative expression and participation in the arts in under-resourced communities.

Funds may be used as seed money for beginning new projects, expanding established programs or modifying currently funded programs.

Grants Schedule:

  • Grants Round opens October 15, 2014
  • Applications due November 10, 2014 at 12 midnight
  • Funding Period: November, 2014 through February 28, 2015
