Regional Arts Commission Launches Search for New Executive Director

St. Louis, Missouri (Sept. 29, 2014) – The Regional Arts Commission (RAC) has retained Arts Consulting Group (ACG) to perform a national search to find a successor for Executive Director Jill McGuire, who announced in May her plans to retire by the end of the year.

Arts Consulting Group is the leading provider of hands-on interim management, executive search, revenue enhancement consulting, facilities & program planning, and organizational development services for the arts and culture industry. It has offices in New York, Washington DC, Boston, Pittsburgh, Tampa, Los Angeles, San Diego, Portland, Seattle, and Chicago.

Michael Scully, chairman of the Regional Arts Commission, appointed a search committee comprised of Commissioners and community leaders.  Scully, and Donna Wilkinson, current commissioner and past chair of the Regional Arts Commission, will serve as co-chairs of the search committee.

“With ACG’s extensive national arts network and their deep understanding of this field, we believe we have found the best partner to assist us in recruiting the right person for this influential and visible position,” said Michael Scully.

Under McGuire’s leadership, RAC has been at the forefront of efforts to elevate the vitality, value and visibility of the arts in St. Louis both locally and nationally.  Some of the major accomplishments include: new initiatives such as Artists Support Grants and Artists Fellowships that provide direct support to diverse artists; creating the RAC Innovation/Advancement Fund to support organizations who take risks to accomplish artistic and administrative goals; establishing an open grants process and developing an online grants system, one of the first arts agencies to do so; hosting the first Community Arts Convening in the country; conducting the first comprehensive study of artists working in the St. Louis region and reporting the relative economic impact; advocating for the first percent for art programming in the City of St. Louis; and creating a major arts stabilization fund.

“Jill has generated an impressive track record over her 29 years in this role.  These are going to be big shoes to fill,” said Donna Wilkinson.  “We are confident Arts Consulting Group will work closely with the search committee to present a list of exceptional candidates for our consideration in selecting a leader who will continue RAC’s rich tradition of promoting and fostering the arts in the St. Louis community.”

Lee Kappelman, from Arts Consulting Group, will serve as the lead consultant for this search.  Interested candidates should direct their inquiries to:
