Only For The Open Sky is created from pieces of wood stacked and arranged into an organic form. The tension between the angularity of each piece of wood and the naturalism of the larger form, as well as the tension between the earthiness of the piece and the reference to the “open sky” in the title, make this an intriguing piece.

Artist Bio:
Ingrid Hartlieb creates wood sculptures that can include anything from bouys, distant keepers, life belts air and seat cushions, javelins, escape tools, driving wheels, cylinders and treadmills. Over the course of the creation process, these works are chainsawed, planed, limed, and coated with wax and pigments. Hartlieb says, “My works are attempts to compose psychological situations: fears, compulsions symbolically in a universally valid form. They are statements of my existence and thus of the human race.”
