Torsi di Ikaro

By Igor Mitoraj
Category: Sculpture

About

Igor Mitoraj is inspired by ancient cultures and particularly characters from Greek and Roman mythology. His work varies in scale from the monumental to the miniature to everything in between. However, what links his sculptures together is their common fragmented appearance. He often exposes the void inside his sculptures or simply displays them as if they were an outer shell. While this successfully brings his works into a contemporary dialogue, many view his dedication to the figure as too conservative in today’s art world. Nevertheless, his work’s allure and beauty are powerful, thus making their success difficult to deny.
