The Musician’s Memorial and Fountain commemorates the services of Owen Miller and Otto Ostendorf, both members of the St. Louis Symphony and various theater orchestras. Miller and Ostendorf were secretary and treasurer, respectively, of the American Federation of Musicians for many years. Sculpted in bronze, the high-relief panel of Musician’s Memorial and Fountain depicts Pan surrounded by dancing children. A 150-piece band performed at the 1925 dedication of the monument.

About the artist:
Victor Holm and Gabriel Ferrand
1876-1935
Holm was a practicing artist, and taught sculpture at Washington University in St. Louis in the early 1900s.
1876-1934
Ferrand was born in Toulouse, France, and moved to the United States in 1908 to accept a position as an assistant professor in charge of design at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, PA. He later moved to St. Louis to work in the Washington University School of Architecture, where he was eventually named dean in 1916. In 1931, the President of France named him chevalier of the legion of Honor of the French Republic in honor of his excellence in architecture.
