Bust of Carl Linnaeus

By Paul T. Granlund
Category: Bust

About

Carl Linnaeus was an 18th century botanist and is the father of plant taxonomy. This bust not only celebrates Linneaus’s achievements but also the source of his family name. Linneaus is the Latin translation of lin which, in his local dialect refers to the linden tree. For this reason, the bust is modeled so that the shoulders emerge out of a tree. Furthermore, the design on the back of the head represents the layout of the family garden in Uppsala, Sweden.
