The retirement monument of the St. Louis Cardinals’ greatest batter, Stan Musial was commissioned by the St. Louis Chapter of the Baseball Writer’s Association. Musial, who played his entire 22-year professional career with the Cardinals, won seven league batting titles and three Most Valuable Player Awards. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969. Most recently, in 2011 President Obama presented Musial with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor that can be bestowed on a civilian.
