The Bather

By Gary Mauro

About

This large bronze was originally sculpted as a 13″ maquette called Tara Reclining. A prominent art collector liked the small figure so much that he encouraged Mauro to produce a similar sculpture in 10 percent over life size. The influence of two masters is evident in this piece; the strong stretched form is reminiscent of Michelangelo’s figure of God on the Sistine Chapel ceiling, and the roughly textured surface mimics Rodin’s finishing technique.
