About the artist:
Michael Atkinson
b. 1946
Born and raised in Lubbock, Texas, Michael Atkinson began early as an artist. He started drawing as a small child with crayons, barely learning to read as a first grader because of his love of drawing. In 1985, after several years of establishing himself as a two-dimensional artist, Atkinson decided to plunge into the three-dimensional art market. Atkinson chose athletic figures to develop his interest in the human form. These life-size pieces portray athletes in a moment of reflection. Atkinson believes that sculpting challenges him to capture emotion, be it subtle or exaggerated.
