Fall Exhibitions | Foundry Art Centre

The Foundry Art Centre is delighted to announce the opening of new exhibitions on Friday, September 6th. Linnea Ryshke’s Afield, Gregg Louis’ In Plain Sight, and Abbi Ruppert’s Along the Way will open in the Main Galleries. Sue Giannotti’s Excavation will open in the East Gallery.

Afield, by Linnea Ryshe, is a multi-media project consisting of paintings, drawings, sculpture, and poetry that center on the complexities of the relationships between humans and animals. The project is a culmination of Ryshke’s recent ethnographic research in Sweden, creating a contemplative space for viewers to engage with questions about what it means to care for and about the lives of other animals.

Multidisciplinary artist Gregg Louis’ exhibition, In Plain Sight, features video installations alongside mono-prints. Both series explore pseudo-psychological experiments serving as a wink-and-nod to both the Jungian concept of the “shadow self” and the contemporary absurdity of reality TV characters like Tan Mom.

Abbi Ruppert’s shifting artistic practice focuses on the difficulties of a work-life balance. Along the Way consists of mixed media works concerned with finding inspiration in an ever-busy contemporary life, showcasing the mundane objects that we stumble upon by chance when trying to live in the present.

In the East Gallery, Sue Giannotti uses contemporary mosaics to explore the many facets, challenges, and inner dialogue of an introvert living in a society which rewards extroversion. In Excavation, these minimalist works invite the viewer to pause and explore – the surface may appear one way, but underneath there is much more to be found.

These four new exhibitions will open on Friday, September 6th, 5-8pm, as part of the Foundry’s First Friday programming. Art activities, live music, the Foundry bar, and more will be available throughout the evening.

Afield, In Plain Sight, and Along the Way will be on view in the Main Galleries through October 19th. Excavations will be on view in the East Gallery through October 26th.
