Falling Man
By Ernest Trova

About
It was the experience of working with mannequins that led Trova to develop his first series of faceless, armless, nude figures that represented the bureaucratic and technological ‘Everyman.’ These figures, which came to be titled the Falling Man series, first appeared in 1964. The silhouette of this Falling Man has quiet dignity and gracefulness of form. His upper torso splits into four sections that reach out like petals on a blooming flower.

About the artist:
Ernest Trova
1927-2009
Ernest Tino Trova, a self-trained St. Louis native, became one of the significant artists of the late twentieth century. Trova has always insisted on consistency of content in his work, along with persistency of application and personal addiction for getting work done. He considered his entire output a single “work in progress.” Trova’s gift of forty of his works led to the opening of the Laumeier Sculpture Park. As one of the most prolific and imaginative sculptors of our time, Ernest Trova continues to create many more outstanding works of art and venture into hitherto unexplored areas.
