About
Man with a Briefcase at #2968443, 1986, by Jonathan Borofsky is a towering, white collar worker holding a briefcase, an archetypal image displayed as a cut-out figure. In 1969, to aid his concentration, the artist began a process of numbering pieces of blank paper every day. Each of his works is given the number to which he counted at the time of its completion. The number inscribed on this man insinuates sinister overtones and associations with concentration camp victims, soldiers’ dog tags and the variety of numbers now identifying individuals in a technological society.
