About RAC

We are an investor in the arts and artists. We will prioritize quality in all that we do. We believe that equity is an urgent and necessary priority. We believe that every child deserves a well-rounded education that includes the arts. We will promote partnerships to strengthen the sector.

These are the principles that guide our work. Because every artist, organization and generation in our region thrives when the arts around us do, too.

Our Mission Statement

As the leading public catalyst for arts and culture in St. Louis, the Regional Arts Commission leverages the power of creativity to strengthen and enrich our community.

Our Vision

The Regional Arts Commission envisions a region where every resident has the freedom, resources, and opportunities to enjoy a creative life – to share and celebrate their stories, art, and culture and feel a sense of belonging wherever they live, work, or play.

In this more equitable world, every culture is valued, supported and enabled to grow and thrive. A person’s well-being and success in life are not determined by race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, national origin, religion, ability, class, or status.

This work requires that we confront inequities of the past, reveal inequities of the present and develop effective strategies to move all of us toward a more equitable future.

Our Statement

A Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

To ensure a full creative life for every St. Louisan, RAC commits to champion policies and practices that promote diversity, racial equity, accessibility, and inclusion in the arts.

Freedom Summer — St. Louis Art Apprentices Honor Civil Rights History, While Tying it to Modern Struggles

Nearly every day this summer, dozens of St. Louis teens are trading one classroom for another. Instead of sleeping in, playing video games, or going to the pool, they are choosing to wake up before breakfast to make their way to a building on the Delmar Loop and do what many say is impossible. They are learning to earn a living producing art, and are getting paid while they do it.
