Early Music Missouri presents “The Baroque Organ: Frescobaldi, Bach, Byrd & Marchand”

Early Music Missouri’s 2023 – 2024 season continues with a solo organ recital by David Sinden. The program features a century of music masters of the instrument from the early 17th Century into the 18th Century. Early 17th-century works include Giolamo Frescobaldi’s Messa della Madonna as well as fantasias by English composers William Byrd and Orlando Gibbons. Later music on the program are Louis Marchand’s Grand Dialogue in C as well as chorale preludes and the Fantasia and Fugue in G minor by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Noted for his “centered leadership and solid musicianship,” David Sinden is Organist and Director of Music at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in St. Louis MO. He has led the St. Peter’s Choir in premieres of works by Francis Pott, Melissa Dunphy and Jessica French. His recording with the St. Peter’s Choir, Longing for Home (Regent, 2020), has been widely acclaimed. As an organist, David had appeared at conventions of the Anglican Association of Musicians, the Organ Historical Society and the Hymn Society of the United States and Canada.

Prior to his current appointment in 2015, David served as Organist and Director of Music at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Richmond VA. While in Virginia, he was also Artistic Director of the Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale for three seasons and served on the Standing Committee for Liturgy and Church Music for the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia.

David has held leadership positions in several chapters of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) and currently serves on the Executive Committee of the St. Louis Chapter as well as the New Music and Performance Committees for the 2026 AGO National Convention to be held in St. Louis. Previously he served on the Program and Executive Committees of the Richmond Chapter of the AGO and is a former Dean of the Indianapolis Chapter.

David holds degrees in music from Oberlin College and Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.
