Join the Museum as we host our second Survivor Hour, featuring the remarkable journey of Gittel Burns in the Shanghai Ghetto.
While European Jews had been shut out of country after country while trying to escape Nazi persecution found a beacon of hope in an unlikely place: Shanghai, China. Museum staff will explore this lesser-known history and shed light on how the Museum preserves and shares Gittel’s experiences through our rich collection of artifacts
Gittel Burns will then share her compelling testimony, accompanied by her longtime friend and researcher, Lisa Johnson. Together, they will weave a narrative that resonates with resilience and the triumph of the human spirit.
Johnson’s newly released book on Gittel Burns “A Letter To My Family” will be available for purchase and signing after the program.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Benjamin F. Edwards Co. for their generous support, which has made this program possible.
