Leaders Igniting Generational Healing and Transformation (LIGHT) is calling for submissions of art, letters, stories, poetry, and other creative works for the first issue of a biannual literary journal in public health that connects, creates, and curates content for the public by the public.

LIGHT is inviting the community to share their lived experiences of healing and health as a way to connect with each other through poetry, letters, stories, art, spoken word, music, and more. Learn more.

The deadline to submit via Submittable is by May 1, 2022, at 11:59 PM CST. There is no entry fee.

Prizes:

  • First place will be awarded $500
  • Second place will be awarded $375
  • Third place will be awarded $125.
  • Prizes will be given to the top three contestants of each category.

In addition, LIGHT and Saint Louis University invites everyone in the field and all members of the public—artists, poets, practitioners, storytellers, and the like—to attend the inaugural Virtual LIGHT Festival on Friday and Saturday, June 17-18, 2022. The event helps bridge the divide between public health researchers and the public by creating opportunities to connect with one another through art, letters, stories, and poetry as lived experiences of healing and health.

Finally, LIGHT is hosting its first summer camp for middle school students from August 1-5, 2022 at Saint Louis University. This camp is intended to engage young learners in public health creative writing through letter-writing, poetry, and storytelling.
