Paint Louis is partnering with RAC-funded Artists First, an inclusive, nonprofit art studio in St. Louis, for a “First Look” at local participating graffiti artists at 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27. The event will be held at Artists First, 7190 Manchester Rd.
“Paint Louis is excited to partner with Artist First for our 25th Anniversary,” said John Harrington, the co-founder of Paint Louis. “First Look is a way for the community to come together and engage with the artists, while learning techniques, styles, and the history of street art. Together Paint Louis artists, Artists First participants, and event attendees will collaborate and create some amazing artwork that will have a positive effect on the community as a whole for years to come.”
The kick off begins with the artists collaborating in creating live graffiti art on from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the corner of Manchester Rd. and Yale Ave. in Maplewood (down the street from Artists First). This free community outdoor event will have a learning component of how to use professional materials and styles to master your own legal graffiti techniques.
The unveiling of the finished pieces will happen 6-8 p.m. at the Artists First studio located at 7190 Manchester Road in Maplewood. Selected pieces will be auctioned off during the showing. All proceeds will be donated to Artists First to support artists with disabilities, veterans, and youth.
The Paint Louis Graffiti Street Art Festival will be held Sept. 2-4 at The Mural Mile in downtown St. Louis. The event will take place from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. on each day. More than 400 artists from around the world will showcase their work during the event. For the latest on the Paint Louis event, visit the official Facebook page.
