AIT’s community art buses are ordinary fleet vehicles transformed into art on the move. They are designed by artists who paint them with the assistance of members of the public art community. These buses operate as part of Metro’s fleet, enlivening the street, bringing art into the daily lives of passengers and passers-by, and delighting all who see them.

Artist Bio:
Arts in Transit works to enhance the transit system by commissioning temporary and permanent public art works by local, regional and national artists. To date, more than one hundred projects have been installed and/or performed. Currently, project venues include MetroLink stations and vehicle interiors, MetroBus centers, bus shelters, and in the case of the Art Bus Fleet, bus exteriors.
AIT has become a catalyst for enabling neighborhood residents to weave MetroLink stations into the fabric of their community. Well-coordinated community involvement and excellence in art and design helps develop public environments that are well-used and that contribute to both the social and economic well-being of the community.
