About

The young artist, who was a student at Washington University at the time, was commissioned by developers of Kingsbury Place specifically to sculpt a figure of a woman as the centerpiece for the entry gate to the private street. It took two years for Garrett to complete the sculpture, which she titledAwakening Spring. Once it was unveiled, the female figure’s nudity caused such an uproar that Garrett used part of the $7000 earnings to flee to Paris.
