Evolution of the Bike

By Grace McCammond
Category: Mural

About

Once called Forest Park Southeast, the Grove is located south of the Central West End and southeast of Forest Park. Painter Grace McCammond has painted numerous murals and completed several commissions for the Grove neighborhood, including painting over fifty fire hydrants in the area. Evolution of the Bike was commissioned for the annual Tour de Grove Bike Race and was unveiled in May 2012. The mural alludes to the evolution of man, but instead of man growing taller and straighter, the bicyclists become sleeker and more hunched over. The black and white paint references old photographs and emphasizes the history of the bicycle.
