Francine, the Mermaid

By Robin Murez
Category: Fountain

About

Robin Murez’s brilliantly colored mosaics at Francis Park pull the viewer into a whimsical dream world and stir up childhood fantasy. Reminiscent of the work of Niki de Saint Phalle and Gustav Klimt, the undulating forms are a comforting presence, inspiring what is easily neglected: our imagination. More of an installation than a sculpture, Murez’s benches flank the park’s wading pool. They face a glittering mermaid, whose abstract form is lost in her dazzling appearance. Robin Murez is a local St. Louis artist.
